πŸ„ The Great Greenwood Story

Beyond the woodland gate lies The Great Greenwoodβ€”a magical forest where ancient trees, woodland creatures and hidden pathways lead to unforgettable adventures.

The Great Greenwood is a story of imagination, friendship and discovery.

Join Emma as she ventures into an extraordinary forest and meets Old Feather, Gobo and a curious group of woodland friends. As their adventure unfolds, challenges are faced, lessons are learned, and the forest's greatest secret is revealed β€” a secret that shows just how deeply connected the natural world really is.

The Great Greenwood forms part of the Stage 1 Foundations learning journey, where learners encounter its characters, settings and stories through reading, listening and creative activities.

The complete story is also available separately for learners and families who would like to continue the adventure beyond their lessons.

🎨 A Note About the Illustrations in the book

As a practising artist, I am now beginning the exciting process of creating original hand-painted illustrations for The Great Greenwood, bringing the woodland to life through my own painting β€” including work in oils on copper, a medium I particularly love for its warmth, depth and luminosity. Over time, the temporary digital imagery will gradually be replaced by my original artwork, so visitors will be able to watch The Great Greenwood evolve from an imagined digital world into a hand-painted one.

I’ll be sharing parts of that journey as the paintings develop. 🌳🎨

🌱 Inspire Curiosity Beyond the Story

The Great Greenwood was inspired by something that really exists beneath our forests.

Beneath the forest floor, networks of fungi known as mycelium form relationships with the roots of trees and other plants, creating extraordinary connections throughout woodland ecosystems. These hidden networks are often popularly described as the Wood Wide Web.

The Rootkeepers and the magical world of The Great Greenwood grew from this fascinating idea β€” giving learners an opportunity to discover how imagination and the natural world can inspire one another.

Encourage your learners to explore the real-world ideas behind the story. Watch the films below together, ask questions, discuss what they discover and invite them to think about how something from the natural world could become the beginning of a story of their own.
